An extra year
Of uncertainty and waiting
Trying again and again
She wished she’d quit pining
She stepped into college
Bright-eyed and bushy tailed
Ready to take on the world
Like a ship that set sail
Alas, a rookie mistake
She strode on without a single doubt or fear
Of its slowing pace
Growing more akin to snail mail
72 months in
And she is still just as lost
Despite one clumsy certificate in her hands
The lack of the other left her in dust
What now, she wondered
Where is she headed to?
These thoughts, she pondered
But nowhere, they got her to
Friends gently offered support
Despite her clouds of grey
Offering their time and presence
To feel less disheartened by the present
It is okay if she lacked answers
To not be the know-it-all
There is a season to pause and wait
Instead of fishes scrambling to bite the bait
Regardless of whether we are of faith
God is there, even through life’s snares
Her friend took her by the hand
Allowing her soul to be bare —
“If in doubt, pray it out, my love. It gets rough, but you will be okay.”
