Take Courage, Dear Heart

Day by day, I feel estranged; From my outer image, And inner ways.

Who is this person,

That is standing in front of me;

And how my eyes could never see,

How she really could end up being.

Gazing at her reflection in the mirror,

She observed the swirl of emotions in her eyes:

A conflicted whirlwind between what she wants to portray,

And what she truly feels inside.

She went into deep thought.

Truly,

How many of us have the ability to mask so much over time;

The word ‘okay’ becoming an automatic response rather than one of genuine expression?

And she wondered,

How much really,

Has since been real?

She may be I,

And she may by You.

Although it may seem that we are alone in the depths of our trials,

There is always someone out there who understands what you are going through too;

There is always someone out there looking out for us.

As I walked down this solid path,

Basking in contented solitude;

I looked up, unable to fully comprehend,

The absolute beauty of the skies, the purest of blues and the little tufts of white;

Paired with a tinge of the branches of trees as spring beckons.

I soaked myself in the beauty of the scenery,

Allowing the cold wind to tussle through my hair.

And all I could think about was,

How amazing it is -

That no matter where we are,

We are all connected under the same sky.

Take courage, dear heart;

Here’s to another day of living.

Take courage, dear heart;

Be unafraid to speak yourself.

Take courage, dear heart;

Here’s to crawling through the rough — together.
